Release of the Poster of the 8th Barrier Free campaign 2015 by Shri. L. Nabakishor Singh - IAS, the Sate Commissioner for the Persons with Disabilities of Manipur on the 17th October 2015Release of Leaflet of the 8th Barrier Free campaign 2015 by Shri. L. Nabakishor Singh - IAS, the Sate Commissioner for the Persons with Disabilities of Manipur on the 17th October 2015

Launch the 8th Fortnight Barrier Free Campaign 2015 (17th to 31st October 2015) :

On the 17th October 2015, at 01:00 p.m., the 8th Fortnight Barrier Free Campaign 2015 (17th to 31st October 2015) was launch by Shri L. Nabakishwar Singh – IAS, the State Commissioner for the Persons with Disabilities at Manipur Press Club, Imphal in a formal function of the Opening Ceremony of the Campaign. The Commissioner releasing the poster and leaflets of the campaign said “Already provisions are made for the accessibility for the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the PWDs Act – 1995 (EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES, PROTECTION OF RIGHTS AND FULL PARTICIPATION ACT, 1995) in terms of buildings, roads, zebra crossing, lift, toilets, etc in public places. Also in Municipality Bay law 2013, there is section that constructions should be made barrier free and accessible by putting ramps, Proper Sign board, Braille marks, auditory systems etc. But, we hardly could see such facilities in practical, so it is much needed to exchange thoughts between other stakeholders. Barrier free campaign is a very unique campaign compare to other awareness campaign but very few in numbers even though its need and importance is much.”

Dr. Sapam Jasowanta Singh – Secretary General of HD Foundation giving the keynote address highlighted the importance of creating a barrier free and accessible society. Also he highlighted the activities that would be taken up within this campaign which includes pasting of the posters in public places, distributing leaflets, awareness campaign in different districts, 1st State Level Open Slogan Competition and Workshop at the closing ceremony of the campaign on the 31st October 2015.

HD Foundation since after its existence has witnessed several barriers lying openly or hiddenly in our Society. These barriers have restricted the persons with disabilities to be in mainstream life and thus they are force to exclude from the society. Handicapped Development Foundation has been organizing “Barrier Free Campaign” every year since 2008 with main objective of creating an environment that is accessible and useable by everyone in the society irrespective of disability and old ages could enjoy the same benefits as others in accessing Public and Private Buildings, Transports systems, Roads etc.

The 8th Fortnight Barrier Free Campaign 2015 (17th to 31st October 2015) is organised by the Handicapped Development (HD) Foundation, Manipur, in associate with The Office of the State Commissioner for the Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of Manipur.
